Legacy of
Distinguished Founders
Founded by Ellie Schneiderman and the late. Stanley Levine, both prominent figures in the arts community, whose contributions have significantly shaped and revitalized the local arts landscape.
ArtSouth’s seasonal programs are easily accessed with consideration for participants of all abilities, ethnicities and languages. Annual year-round programs take place within centrally located neighborhoods throughout Miami-Dade County. Most programs are free or charge minimal affordable costs to compensate for restricted funding expenses.
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
ArtSouth’s artists-as-teachers and professionals in the field provide after school, summer camp, no-school holiday and weekend workshops, field trips, and year-round classes for children, ages 4-17
ArtSouth offers age-friendly Visual Arts classes and workshops in painting, drawing and mixed media for senior adults to remain artistically active no matter skill level and experience in art. The classes focus on the fundamentals of drawing and painting, progressively developing techniques according to the needs of the participants. Classes are offered various times and on a number of sites to service Miami-Dade’s diverse senior population.
Monthly rotating gallery exhibitions/receptions at The Historic Perrine Community House in Palmetto Bay, featuring a variety of media created by local artists for sale and/or exhibition. The monthly exhibitions exposes the community to local emerging artists and provides a free venue for artists to exhibit and sell their work.
ArtSouth builds collaborative neighborhood connections that stimulate increased internal and external public participation. ArtSouth’s seasonal visual arts workshops boost neighborhood activity and social interchange in the historic Thalatta Estate in Palmetto Bay. All workshops are open-to-the-public with any resulting revenue used to contribute to ArtSouth’s programs for families and children who lack access to the arts because of economic constraints.
ArtSouth’s Art Behind Bars program at Everglades Correctional Institution offers inmates unique access to high-quality visual arts education, fostering creativity and providing a constructive outlet within the prison system.
Comprehensive Artistic Development
The Art Dorm at ECI, supported by ArtSouth, offers a cooperative studio environment with resources, professional guidance, and organized classes, enabling inmates to fully immerse themselves in artistic development.
Showcasing Talent Beyond Prison
ArtSouth empowers Art Dorm artists to create and exhibit significant projects, both within the prison and in external galleries, providing a platform for artistic expression and personal growth.
