Community Mural Experience in recognition of Earth Day and the South Miami Community Redevelopment Agency. ArtSouth students, Unconventional Corporation and the Dadeland Apple Store teamed up to design and create a mural masterpiece depicting SMCRA historical and neighborhood identity. The mural forevermore enhances the area in front of SMCRA offices which also houses ArtSouth and other community businesses that provide various services within SMCRA. The mural was designed by Unconventional artists and executed by their Managing Partner, Jordan B. Magid and ArtSouth Board Chair, Janis Klein. The mural focal point is their artist’s rendition of Marshall Williamson, surrounding by symbolic representations of SMCRA. ArtSouth was represented by several art students who participate regularly in service learning activities throughout the County. Apple Store provided the artistic labor by offering over 40 employees who not only familiarized themselves with SMCRA, but also were privileged to learn and participate in the historical significance of the mural project within the SMCRA.

On February 4, ArtSouth was represented with a booth during an event to promote healthy living sponsored by Chamber South at Sunset Place in South Miami. ArtSouth artists, students and staff hosted a face and body painting activity at the event. Face & Body painting is the artistic application of cosmetic “paint” to a person’s face and body.

Face and Body Painting is an ancient art form that has been modernized by contemporary artists. Amateurs and seasoned artists gathered to celebrate the art form and showcase new techniques. Artists used special water-based cosmetic “paints” specifically made for face and body painting.

At ArtSouth’s summer camp, our kids have spent the last few sessions exploring the visual arts, music, and dance. The children are hard at work preparing for their Final Show to be held August 11 at the Miami Dade Homestead campus. Spots are still available for fourth session enrollment in ArtSouth summer camp.

2017 Summer Camp Flyer

Seasonally scheduled throughout the year
Adults (21 years +) are taught  to paint their own wine glasses using a great variety of colors and decorations. Students are given the opportunity to be creative while enjoying wine and refreshments in a beautiful setting. All glassware is taken home for further enjoyment.
